Is One Of The Yorkies For Sale In Colorado Right For You

By James Gray

Dog lovers who live in small apartments and condos have to think carefully before they buy a puppy companion. They are going to be looking for an animal that can thrive in small spaces and won't annoy the neighbors who are living on the other side of the wall, ceiling, or floor. The Yorkies for sale in Colorado are among the most suitable breeds on the planet for apartment dwellers. In addition to that, if you purchase one you'll be the proud owner of the most popular toy breed in the country.

With their cute little topknots, silky coats, bright eyes, and bigger than they are personalities, these dogs can be a delightful addition to the right family. They are not for everyone however. If you have small children, this is not the dog for you. Responsible breeders won't even sell their pups to families that have children under the age of six or seven.

Families who are at work or school all day, leaving their pet on his own for long stretches of time, need some other animal. If you are interested in, or do not have the time, to keep your Yorkie groomed, you probably would be happier with a short haired dog. Yorkies are notoriously hard to house train. Crating is recommended. For families without the kind of patience needed to get through this step, a more accommodating breed should be considered.

Your Yorkie might become a yapper, which will annoy your neighbors as much as it frustrates you, if you don't train him early. It's important to teach your Yorkie when it's appropriate to sound the alarm and when to remain still. Yorkshires sometimes think they're the size of Rottweilers and will go after other dogs they don't get socialized early in their lives. These dogs can be picky when it comes to their food. They sometimes have digestive issues it takes a vet to solve.

Yorkshires are known to be snappish especially when startled. They can develop separation anxiety if you leave them alone too long. These are very intuitive dogs. A Yorkie will pick up on his owner's mood and mirror it. If you're over anxious and over protective, you'll make your pup anxious and nervous.

Yorkshires do not always lose their baby teeth. When this happens they should see a vet. This will lead to tooth decay eventually, when the adult teeth start to move down and get crooked.

On the positive side, you won't have to spend hours outside exercising your Yorkie. Although they are active, a walk around the block is usually sufficient as long as you give them plenty of playtime inside. Yorkshires don't like the cold and are susceptible to colds if exposed.

These are generally healthy little dogs, but like all breeds they are prone to certain conditions. You want to get the parent's health clearances from the breeder to make sure there are no genetic issues. All in all, Yorkies make wonderful pets for anyone looking for a bright, affectionate, elegant little dog.
