Although small, it really has all the traits of the larger terrier and may require an owner with a strong personality so that it can be more easily trained. Despite its small size, this dog is surprisingly long lived. It has an average lifespan of around thirteen to twenty years. Longer years of course can be attributed to extra loving care and proper nutrition. The latter is most important due to the inherent digestive sensitivity of the breed.

Due to their sensitive stomachs, the most common ailment for this breed will be chronic vomiting and diarrhea. They are also sensitive to a lot of forms of anesthesia, and thus injury must be avoided as much as possible. They are easily injured due to their small size and so rough play must be avoided and they should be kept inside the home a majority of the time.
