A Career Change Starts With Online Resumes

By Paul Wilson

There are times in our lives when we look at things clearly and realize that something needs to change. It is never too late for a career change and it all starts with online resumes and searches to work out the new direction for your life. Whether it is another job in the same industry or a complete career change starting from scratch, it is all possible.

If you are unhappy in your current role, it is important to make a change, for your health and happiness and that of the people around you. It is very difficult to see someone you love unhappy because of their job, especially when they can make a change for the better. Make a list of all the dream jobs you've ever imagined and start from there.

Some dream jobs might always be unattainable, but there is usually a variation or similar career path that will give you the same level of satisfaction. Picture the one thing you have always dreamed of doing and work back from that. Find a compromise between what you want to do and what you actually can do.

Before you make a change or start applying for new jobs, consider any future problems that might stand in your way. Are you planning to have children soon? Check the maternity policy of companies and how long the training takes to ensure it fits in with your family plan. Are you planning to retire soon? How long do you think you'll be in the new job before you leave for retirement? Everything needs to be considered before you make the leap.

Where job hunting is concerned, nowadays it is a matter of quantity and quality. The competition out there is fierce and for every job you apply for there are a huge amount of applicants. Your application needs to stand out, but you also need to be applying to as many places as you possibly can. Give yourself the best possible chance of succeeding.

Try to make sure that your resume is printed on as few pages as possible. In the past people used to try to add as much information as they possibly could, thinking that a bigger resume meant more experience, but in reality it is a waste of time for the person who has to read it. Think of their experience as they work through it and make it as easy as possible for them.

When you are preparing for the interview, be as thorough as you possibly can. You should have an idea of the type of thing they will ask you from the job advertisement. Go through it and make a note of all the elements they are looking for in a candidate and explain how you fit their criteria.

Whether you want to change your career completely or just undertake further training to keep challenging yourself, confidence will help you. If you believe that you are capable of whatever you are trying to do, you are much more likely to succeed. Talk to yourself in the same way that you would talk to a friend, by being positive and encouraging.
