Everyday Tricks For Reducing Carbon Emissions Oklahoma

By Karen Wood

Climate change is threatening the existence of humanity on earth. There are modern activities that are contributing a big deal towards global warming through excessive carbon emissions. Experts on reducing carbon emissions Oklahoma have provided ways for individuals and corporate organizations to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases they are responsible for in the environment and in the process slow down global warming.

Walk instead of driving or using other mechanical forms. If you are going a few blocks away, leave the car behind and take a walk. Beyond being a healthy option for you, walking cuts fossil fuel consumption to zero. Vehicles and their fossil fuel are some of the biggest contributors to CO2 and global warming. Further, other than taking the lift which will consume energy up and down, it is recommended that you use stairs.

Buy and ride in vehicles with engines that are efficient on fuel. Since driving is inevitable in some instances, use modern vehicles that will consume the least fuel without reducing your level of comfort. Buying these vehicles is usually more expensive but their reduced fuel consumption means that pollution is cut significantly. Since electric cars will still need to be charged, they are not yet rated zero on CO2 emission.

Adapt the recommended driving style. There is a fuel efficient way of speeding that every driver should adapt. You should also not drive too slowly because the vehicle will be consuming more fuel. Tune the engine appropriately and use the right engine oils. Ensure that your tires are adequately inflated because it will save a significant amount of fuel. Combine trips into a single one instead of making several smaller errands.

Ensure that the room you are living or working in is properly insulated. Insulation ensures that heated or cooled air does not escape. This would cause your air conditioning system to overwork. It would be consuming energy in an exercise that is futile. Seal all the holes and where possible, use natural heat and cool breeze to keep your interior warm or cold.

Mind how you use water. Water is a heavy consumer of energy as it is pumped from reservoirs miles away. This translates into excessive energy consumption. Water should therefore be used sparingly. Avoid running water whenever you can use a container. Wipe your vehicle instead of washing and use methods of washing that save water. Install water efficient faucet heads, shower heads, toilets and dish washers among other appliances at home.

Buy local foods as much as possible. Locally manufactured and packaged foods require less transportation and refrigeration. This translates into less CO2 compared to foods that have to be frozen and transported for miles. Each area has sufficient supply of diverse foods that can be consumed locally. You will be playing your part in reducing greenhouse gases.

There are numerous initiatives that will translate into clean energy. These initiatives include the uses of solar power instead of electricity. This can power both industries and homes. Geothermal and wind power are the other green alternatives. Construction of biomass installations in homes and institutions is also recommended. By reducing your carbon footprint, the world will be cooler.
